California's Newport Coast has frequently been compared to the French Riviera. Some even redundantly use the handle " The CaliforniaRiviera ". Those that live or vacation extensively in both areas know that we in Newport Coast have even more to offer. More miles of usable beaches, more restaurants, golf courses of the highest world status such as Pelican Hill and closer proximity to airports..
Some of my favorite neighborhood in and around Newport:
Grab a sandwich and a couple bottles of your favorite drink, a beach blanket and a couple of lawn chairs then head down to Ocean Blvd. in Corona del Mar up above little Corona del Mar Beach to watch the sunset. There are several parks, grassy knolls and viewpoints such as Inspiration Point. You can then stroll down to the beach among the bonfires.
Walkers/Joggers:
Driving north from Crystal Cove on Pacific Coast Highway turn west on Jamboree and follow the signs to the Balboa ferry. You can either park there and walk around Balboa Island or take the ferry over to the peninsula and walk from peer-to-peer.
Accessing the beaches:
Reef Point has many bike and walking trails . Entered just west of the two large arches at the intersection of Newport Coast Road and Pacific Coast Highway. Scotchman's Cove is the access point for Muddy Creek, a superb body surfing location. Pelican Point has four parking lots on the top of the bluff.
The historic Crystal Cove cottages, Long Beach is and bohemian shabby chic restaurant can be accessed at Los Trancos turning east slightly north of the crystal cove entry gate and shopping.you will find a pedestrian a tunnel under PCH .All the parking lots close at sunset with the exception of Los Trancos (closes at 10pm ).
We have watched Newport Coast develop from a grassy farmland with occasional coyotes and grazing cows into a beautiful Tuscan type landscape with many faceted views such as Dean Koontzs residences phenomenal evening light shows.
Outdoor entertainment:
Back Bay aquatic offers kayaking, the Dunes offers electric boat rentals, and various yacht rentals cater to dinner parties.
